COUPLES THERAPY INTENSIVES AND RETREATS - CALIFORNIA AND PUERTO RICO

What does a couples intensive looks like

1. Pre-Intensive Assessment (90 minutes)

Before your intensive, we start with a comprehensive 90-minute assessment to understand your relationship history, current challenges, communication patterns, and hopes for the future.
This session helps us:

  • Get a clear picture of where you’re stuck

  • Identify underlying patterns that show up in conflict

  • Clarify your individual and shared needs

  • Develop personalized treatment goals for the intensive

This is also your chance to ask questions, share concerns, and make sure you feel grounded before we begin the deeper work.

2. The Intensive Session (3 – 5 hours)

Your intensive is where we do the focused, momentum-building work that weekly therapy simply doesn’t allow space for.

Depending on your needs, intensives are scheduled for 3 to 5 hours and can take place in a single day or be spread across two shorter days.

During this time, we will:

  • Slow down recurring conflict cycles

  • Explore emotions and unmet needs underneath the patterns

  • Build communication tools and relational skills

  • Practice new ways of connecting in real time

  • Repair ruptures and strengthen emotional safety

  • Reconnect with the parts of your relationship that feel good, grounding, and hopeful

The extended time gives us room to breathe, pause when things get intense, and return to the conversation with more clarity and compassion — without the pressure of the clock.

3. Post-Intensive Integration Session (50 minutes)

About a week after your intensive, we’ll meet for a 50-minute follow-up session to support integration and continued growth.

In this session, we will:

  • Check in on how the tools and insights from the intensive are landing in daily life

  • Explore what felt different, what feels easier, and what still feels challenging

  • Identify opportunities for continued progress

  • Make sure both partners feel supported and connected moving forward

This step is essential — it helps the intensive “stick,” gives you accountability, and ensures that the changes you made are translating into your everyday relationship.

“The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives.”

What you’ll receive for your couples intensive therpay

Couples intensives are designed to be thoughtful, personalized, and deeply supportive — not one-size-fits-all. Every part of the process is intentionally crafted around your relationship, your history, and your goals.

A detailed intake questionnaire

Before we meet, both partners will complete a comprehensive intake questionnaire. This allows us to gather important information about your relationship dynamics, communication patterns, stressors, attachment styles, and past experiences — so our time together is focused, efficient, and meaningful from the start.

A personalized workbook

You’ll receive a customized workbook created specifically for your relationship and treatment goals. This includes guided reflections and practical tools you can use before, during, and after your intensive to support continued growth and connection.

Specialized treatment plan

Based on your intake, assessment session, and goals, your therapist will develop a tailored treatment plan that guides the intensive work. This plan serves as a roadmap to us stay aligned, focused, and intentional throughout the process, while remaining flexible to what emerges in the room.

An integrative, depth-oriented approach

Your couples intensive integrates evidence-based and experiential approaches to support both emotional safety and lasting change, including:

  • Gottman Method to strengthen communication, manage conflict, and build friendship and trust

  • Relational Life Therapy (RLT) to address power dynamics, accountability, and relational patterns that keep couples stuck

  • Brainspotting to help process emotional blocks, attachment wounds, and nervous system responses that often sit beneath recurring conflict

This integrative approach allows us to work on both the practical skills and the deeper emotional layers of your relationship — supporting change that feels embodied, sustainable, and real.

Couple therapy intensives in Puerto Rico and California will help you both connect to what's most important to your relationship so you both can feel more connected, whole, and best version of yourselves.
